Does a trailer tracker need power from the towing vehicle?

No. Both trackers run on their own batteries, so it does not matter whether the trailer is hitched up.

Can I get an alert if a trailer leaves the yard?

With the Quantum3, yes. Set a safe zone in the web portal, and while the tracker is armed you are alerted if the trailer leaves it.

Is the Quantum3 waterproof?

Yes. It is rated IP68, so rain, road spray and pressure washing are not a problem.

Trailer Trackers for Horse Boxes and Plant

Trailers are easy to steal. Anyone with a tow bar can hitch one up and be gone, and few trailers carry markings that make them easy to trace afterwards. A hidden tracker gives you, and the police, a location to work with.

Two ways to track a trailer

ScorpionTrack Quantum3 S7, £249 fitted. Battery-powered, so nothing is wired into the trailer’s lighting. Thatcham category S7, IP68 sealed, and monitored: arm it when the trailer is parked and you get a call if it moves. Safe zone alerts tell you if it leaves the yard while armed.
Magnetic GPS Tracker, £169. Fixes on with its built-in magnet or two bolts, runs for up to five years on its battery and is sealed against water and dirt. Useful when you run several plant or flatbed trailers and want to know where each one is.

Hiding it where it counts

A trailer tracker only helps if a thief does not find it. Ours are small and cable-free, so they can go somewhere a thief is unlikely to look, and our engineer will choose a spot that still gets a clear signal. On a horse box, think about the tack or living area rather than the chassis.
